I got back home after a quick stop into town last night, but there was still work to be done. I leave on Monday and there is a while to go on these projects so it was definitely a duel machine and American flag peanut butter kind of night. I've really enjoyed Konstanz, my summer, and taking you along my day. Thanks for bearing with all the selfies and sorry for this one coming so late (My pbone died and I left my adapter at work. Shame on me.) I hope your Tuesday has been great, thank you to the Morehead-Cain for all my wonderful opportunities, and I will see a lot of you soon. Signing off. 📷: Ryan Armstrong '19 #TakeoverTuesday #TeamCrunchyPeanutButter

Many good days end in either the Rhein or the Bodensee. I'm still learning all the customs here in Konstanz, and to be honest, they don't always make sense. For example, you are guarenteed a dirty look if you jaywalk, yet no one seems to mind if you jump off bridges. 📷: Ryan Armstrong '19 #TakeoverTuesday

Here is the start of the other model. The building you see on the left is protected by the city for it's historical importance and is due for restoration. The mason who repairs the dark stonework hired us to create a 2 mm accurate model of the building that he can use as plans for the restoration. The visual accuracy of the model will allow him to inspect the stone. The calibration will allow him to take measurements from his shop to make the replacement pieces. The man in the reflective vest is Dr. Ken Varner. He's a UNC '03 gaduate and the founder of Vaireco. We collected the dataset yesterday and the partial models on the right are from today. 📷: Ryan Armstrong '19 #TakeoverTuesday

Today I am working on two models. The first is of a ship called the Möve. She was built in 1877 but now resides on wooden blocks. Due to her historical significance, a local group is trying to restore the boat and get her back in the water. They needed a calibrated model in order to both access the current status of the boat as well as to reverse engineer the non-existent plans. I have completed the exterior of the boat and am currently working on integrating the below-deck areas. This can be seen in the upper left-hand-corner photo. The model was created through photogrammetry and has an expected accuracy of 3 millimeters. Stay tuned for the other model. 📷: Ryan Armstrong '19 #TakeoverTuesday

There are a few benefits of living so close to Switzerland. For me, crossing boarders is a good way for my runs to seem longer. For Nazi Germany, it saved their town. During WWII, the town of Konstanz left it's lights on at night to appear to be part of neutral Switzerland. They successfully fooled the Allied bombers and the town was never hit. 📷: Ryan Armstrong '19 #TakeoverTuesday

Welcome to the next installment of #TakeoverTuesday. My name Ryan Armstrong and I am a junior studying Physics and Computer Science. This summer I have been working with Vaireco, an inspection company in Konstanz, Germany specializing in solar thermography and 3D modeling. The photo is from a hike of nearby Mount Säntis where I am pleased to say someone asked if I was a real astronaut (NASA shirt). There's a good chance I missed the sarcasm, but a boy can dream. 📷: Ryan Armstrong '19 #TakeoverTuesday
